Steel City Stampede Flashback – Garvin finally cashes in!

Steel City Stampede Flashback – John Garvin Jr. finally cashes in!

Sarver, PA (April 12, 2013) John Garvin Jr. owns and operates, along with his father John Garvin Sr., a salvage yard literally in the shadows of Lernerville Speedway.  Any Tom, Dick or Harry can drop off and cash in on a load of scrap, but Garvin himself has not been able to cash in at Lernerville Speedway; that it is until last October at the Third Annual DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede!

Prior to the Steel City Stampede, Garvin had collected four top tens in 2011 and had a few cracks at his first Precise Late Model feature win, but hadn’t sealed the deal.  Maybe all Garvin needed was for the lights to be off.  Racing features in the daylight of the Sunday afternoon rain date for the second time in three years, Garvin held off fellow junkyard dog and Sarver native Michael Norris to cash in on a $3,000 payday and fulfill a lifelong dream of standing in Sheetz Victory Lane.  Norris battled Garvin for most of the race, but late race contact Garrett Krummert allowed Garvin to cruise to the popular win.  Norris and Krummert chased Garvin to the checkered flag, followed by Chad Valone and Jared Miley.

This Sunday’s feature could provide another Lernerville career feature win for another Sarver/Freeport area driver as Dan Swartzlander starts on the pole for the $3,000-to-win Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Models A-Main and he just so happened to buy an engine from Garvin after breaking a motor at Hagerstown two weeks ago.  Dan is, of course, the son of Inaugural Hall of Fame Inductee Dick Swartzlander.  Dick has 13 career Late Model wins, as well as wins in the Sprints and Modifieds, and while Dan has feature wins at Marion Center and Dog Hollow to his credit, he has yet to stand Sheetz Victory Lane at his home track.

Garrett Krummert is also seeking his first career Lernerville feature win, but has Late Model wins at Attica Raceway Park in Ohio and Modified wins at Mercer Raceway Park, plus some Sprint Car experience at Lernerville in the Kelsey George #43.  Garrett starts fifth in Sunday’s $3,000-to-win Stampede Finale.

Pit gates and tech inspection open at 11:00AM, the grandstands open at 1:00PM and racing will start at 3:00PM.  For more details about Sunday’s DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede Finale, log on to www.Lernerville.com and click the Steel City Stampede link.
