Kids the real winners on “Back to School” Night

Sarver, PA (September 12, 2010) It’s that time of year again, Back to School!  Summer is over, Fab Four Racing is over.  Another season in the archives!  But September also means Saturday Night racing at Lernerville Speedway.  It started last night with the family favorite School Bus and Kid’s Bike Races, continues next Saturday, September 18 with Autumn-Motive Fest featuring the Sportsman/Stock Spectacular and Enduro 100, then concludes with the World of Outlaws Commonwealth Clash on Saturday, September 25.

After hot laps and heat races for the School buses and Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Senior Series, kids of all ages took to the Action Track for the Kid’s Bike Races.  A good time was had by all and winners convened in Sheetz Victory Lane for a group photo with their bikes and trophies.

The School Bus heat race was a two bus battle between Bill Clepper in the “Terminator” bus and Ben Clepper in the “Cheetah” bus.  The first 10 laps of the 15-lap feature appeared to be the same scenario.  But a mandatory caution at lap 10 to invert the field for a five lap dash to the finish changed the game!  Bob Bundy started ahead of the Cleppers and as they battled each other for second, Bundy cruised to his first career School Bus win at Lernerville Speedway.  The “Terminator” nipped the “Cheetah” at the checkered flag.

Frank and Rosie Spithaler were on hand for the race, but sadly the Cow Patty bus was not.  Frank reported that the Cow Patty laid down in a field at the Marburger farm and has been put out to pasture!  But Rosie promised that the Cow Patty 2 would be ready for action next season!

The Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Senior Series took to the speedway next with a nice mix of well-known people from Fab Four Racing in some well known cars from the Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman division.  Track prep guru Dan Bauman jumped in the Kevin Haas #48, Three-Time Track Champion Crew Chief for Alex Ferree’s #4 Late Model Fred Bratchie was behind the wheel of Wayne Carbo’s #54, former Sportsman competitor Chuck Gebauer piloted Jim Fosnaught’s #20J, dads Larry McDonald and John Watson Sr. were driving their sons’ cars, while Fred Casagni was driving his own #8 car.

The cautions were aplenty during the 15-lap feature, including Dan Bauman spinning out in turn three after hanging the right-side tires off the top of the back straightaway on lap two!  Chuck Gebauer got a flat tire and the courtesy tow truck ride to the pits after an early caution.  Despite being three laps down, Gebauer rejoined the field and actually passed leader Fred Bratchie during the feature, but only served to get a lap back and go to the tail on a subsequent restart.

Bratchie, who is no stranger to Sheetz Victory Lane, climbed out of the Carbo #54 and stood victorious on the roof waving the checkered flag!  Dan Bauman raced home second, followed by Joe Drusko, Larry McDonald, John Watson Sr., Fred Casagni and Chuck Gebauer.  Drusko and Bauman won their respective heat races.

Dave Smail won the Figure 8 races, then moved on to the Demo Derby where Jim Gaj outlasted a 10-car field to win his first career Lernerville Demo Derby!

Next Saturday, September 18 is the always exciting Autumn-Motive Fest featuring the Sportsman/Stock Spectacular as the Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman stand in the spotlight for a $2,000-to-win, open rules shootout!  Jim Matthes, General Sales Manager for Charapp Route 28 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep & Ford, has put up $500 for a “Dash for Cash” and Rod Kacin of Thorn Motorsports has organized lap sponsors and contingency awards for the 30-lap feature!  There will also be a $1,000-to-win, 100-lap Enduro on the card during Autumn-Motive Fest.

Then the big show of the month is on Saturday, September 25 as the “Greatest Show on Dirt” returns to the Action Track for the World of Outlaws Commonwealth Clash.  Homegrown Knoxville Nationals Champion and last weekend’s All Star Sprint/Dual in the Dirt feature winner Tim Shaffer will look to steal another big check from the Outlaws.  With $10,000 on the line and the season winding down, Silver Cup Twin 30 Feature #1 winner and current points leader Joey Saldana will lead the Outlaws into Sarvertown.  2010 Budweiser Track Champion Danny Holtgraver and All Time Wins Leader Ed Lynch Jr. will defend their home turf against what promises to be a very deep and talented field of 410 Sprint Car Racing’s best shoes!

Tickets for the Commonwealth Clash are on sale now for just $28 for Reserved Seats, which include a FREE pit pass upgrade!  To buy your tickets today, log on to www.Lernerville.com and click the “Buy Tickets” icon.

The speedway will be dark for three weeks before the season comes to a dramatic close with the DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede on Thursday-Friday-Saturday, October 21-22-23.  Introduced to rave reviews last season, the three-night, eight-division mega-event features $3,000-to-win features for the Ti22 Performance/DIRTcar Challenge Series Sprints, DIRTcar Late Models and Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar/BRP Big Block Modifieds.  Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman, Pro Lates, UMP Mods, Mod Lites and 4-Cylinders will also be on the card.  Saturday Night’s program will be capped off by the final $1,000-to-win, 100-lap Enduro of the 2010 season.
