2022 Lernerville Speedway Fab4 Season Review: Diehl Automotive Big Block Modifieds
Sarver, PA (October 8, 2022) We saw a lot of familiar faces find their way to Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane in the Diehl Automotive Big Block Modified 2022 season at Lernerville Speedway, but we also saw a new winner and a major milestone as Jeremiah Shingledecker snagged his second consecutive, and fourth overall, Diehl Modifieds Championship.
The Big Blocks opened their 2022 Fab4 Revved Up with Marburger Farm Dairy season on April 22 with four-time track champion and 2019 Super DIRTcar Series Champion, Mat Williamson taking the win back to his hometown of St. Catherines, ONT, Canada. After a few weeks off for a special event and a rainout, the Modifieds were back in action on May 13 with Lernerville veteran Dave Murdick taking the checkers before Erick Rudolph took the win when the BRP Modified Tour visited on May 20.
On June 3 it was Shingledecker claiming his first win of the 2022 season. With the win, Shingledecker broke a tie atop the point standings with Brad Rapp. The following week, June 10, Diehl Modified rookie Chas Wolbert claimed his first ever Big Block win holding off Murdick and Shingledecker after a caution with just two laps remaining.
˜Ever since I was a kid, Ive looked up to all of these guys and to be here competing with them, behind them usually, and to be here in front of them tonight, man, its just awesome, a very excited Wolbert exclaimed in Bowser Excavating Victory Lane after his first win. ˜I tried not to let anything go through my mind, after the last caution, ˜because Im my own problem, so I just tried running my race, hitting my marks and man, this car was great tonight.
On June 17, Brian Swartzlander came from the eighth starting position to claim his 99th career win at ˜The Action Track. After the summer break for the ˜16th Annual Firecracker 100 and the ˜Don Martin Memorial Sliver Cup XXXI, Rex King, Jr., found victory lane for the first and only time in 2022 on July 8. Erick Rudolph captured his second win of the season on July 15 before another week off for the annual RUSH Summer Showcase.
When the Modifieds were back in action on July 29, it was Shingledecker bagging his second win of the season extending his point lead heading into the final stretch of the season. Garrett Krummert, who had been knocking on the winners door all season, finally cracked through on August 19 for his only Big Block win of the year before Brian Swartzlander hit the century mark with his 100th Lernerville win on ˜Championship Night on September 2. Shingledecker held a slim 15-point lead over Krummert leading into the final night of points competition and solidified his spot as champion with a third-place finish.
˜Weve gotten a lot better on a slicker racetrack, 2022 Diehl Automotive Big Block Modified Champion Jeremiah Shingledecker said in Victory Lane during his champions interview. ˜Weve won a couple on nights when it was slick and on nights like tonight when theres a little bit more ˜bite to it, weve struggled a little bit, the car has so much grip in it that I struggle to get it through the corners without losing it through the straightaways so its been a challenge for us on the heavier tracks but this 2021 Bicknell (Chassis) has been really good to us. Shingledecker continued after being asked about his future, ˜Its just like anything, the longer youre at it, the better you get and the more you learn and here we are, 27 years later knowing more, if we would have known all this stuff back then, we would have been more successful back then. But no, were not going anywhere, were going to downsize a little bit, maybe not quite as many races but were still going to be a weekly car here at Lernerville.
Krummert finished second in the 2022 points battle and claimed the 1-800-GetPhil Heat Race Bonus. It was previously announced that Shingledecker was the Heat Race Bonus champion, but upon further review, Krummert led the way in heat race points to earn the $800 bonus courtesy of 1-800-GetPhil. Murdick was third just four points ahead of Brian Swartzlander in fourth with Chas Wolbert completing his first full year in the division fifth in points. Colton Walters was sixth followed by Rex King, Jr., Rick Regalski, Steve Feder, and Shawn Fleeger who was tenth.
